LETTER: Tolerance of neighbors can make a life a lot easier

From Bill Resman
Litchfield

Several weeks ago there was a complaint about an RV on a neighbor's driveway blocking her view of her neighborhood down to less than 10 percent. She conveniently forgets to mention that close to half her street view is blocked by her own front-thrust garage.
Tuesday's (July 24) Leader described someone upset about a truck-tractor parked in a driveway. Well, big whoop!
I, too, have a truck-tractor commonly parked in a neighbor's driveway about a half-block away. My neighbor across the street often has five cars parked in his front yard. The neighbor next to him has two cats that love to come over and wander through my yard, the prosecuting attorney living a half-block away has a boat in her driveway, and another neighbor who collects and restores classic cars usually has at least four in his driveway.
Do I care? Not a whit! None of these things really harms me in any way, and besides the neighbors put up with my occasionally barking Boston terrier and my somewhat unkempt shrubs. None of us is perfect.
Hey, it's called tolerance, folks!
Now there's a zealot group that wants to ban smoking on county property, including the parks. Inside could be understandable, but outside is simply punishment for actions they don't happen to like. Imagine the uproar over someone having a beer!

That is the whole problem with these issues.
People cannot tolerate anything anymore - anytime they have a reason to complain about someone else or something, they do. Yet , they would be much better off minding their own business because they themselves are far from perfect.
I am not pointing fingers and anyone specificly - just stating a personal and gerneral opinion.

when i moved to hutchinson, i pictured neighbors getting along, helping each other out, and maybe even having a block party. we picked a nice quiet neighborhood and we hoped that neighbors would be......well neighborly. if i'm lucky i can get my neighbors to say hello back to me when i greet them. i don't have near the problems that i see others have. it seems as though people are afraid to get to know their neighbors. i would like to have one night a year where people come out of their air conditioned hideaways and sit on their front lawns sippin' on ice tea and visiting with each other.

National Night Out is...

Back to page top

National Night Out is organized by the Hutchinson Police Department each year and is an opportunity for neighbors to come out of their air-conditioned hideaways and share sodas and hot dogs. This year's observance is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 7. Go to the police department's Web site at :
www.ci.hutchinson.mn.us/nno.htm for a complete list of the times and locations. We can only hope those neighbors without RVs and those with RVs can get along.

Sounds more like hillbillies rather than tolerance. Don't bring that mess to Hutch.
