Totalfilm.com recently posted its list of "The Greatest Directors Ever [1]."

They hit almost all the greats, and if you're looking for a CliffsNotes-style guide to great cinema, look no further.

As with any list of this sort, there are some blatantly obvious omissions: Jules Dassin [2], Jean Cocteau [3] and Alain Resnais [4] are nowhere to be found. Come to think of it, Jan Švankmajer [5] really ought to be on the list, too. And so should Terry Gilliam [6].

Man, this is kind of a weak list. But it’s a start. It will have to do for now, as I am too busy/lazy at the moment to come up with my own list.
