"The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" is one of the all-time best action thrillers. It set the template for movies like "Die Hard," "Speed" and "Air Force One."

Now Entertainment Weekly [1] reports Denzel Washington will star in a remake of the 1974 movie that started it all.

"Pelham" is about a group of terrorists who hijack an NYC subway train and demand a hefty ransom in exchange for not killing everyone on board. It's fast-paced and full of acerbic wit.

I'm generally opposed to remaking classic movies, which somehow doesn't seem to stop the flood of them anyway. But, I am looking forward to this "Pelham" remake. Director Tony Scott is behind such energetic films as "Enemy of the State" and "Domino."

I think it will be interesting to see how the filmmakers approach the subject of terrorists in NYC, in a post 9/11 climate.

Here's the trailer for the original version. I love that voiceover guy. He sounds a million times tougher than That Announcer Guy [3] who's in all the movie trailers that start with, "In A World Where Blah Blah Blah ... "
