In honor of the dual anniversary of two classic Elvis movie releases — "Jailhouse Rock" and "Spinout" — I present the following musical number, culled from YouTube.
That, of course, is the "Jailhouse Rock" performance from the movie of the same name.
"Jailhouse Rock" was released in 1957, the year after Elvis exploded onto the music scene with a slew of hit singles. The movie cast Elvis as an ex-con, with a great singing voice, who's discovered by a music label.
"Jailhouse Rock" is generally considered by critics to be a better movie than 1966's "Spinout." In "Spinout," Elvis played a singing race car driver chased by three would-be brides.
Elvis made almost three dozen movies and three years after "Spinout," he gave up feature films to focus on touring and recording.
Oddly enough, my favorite Elvis movie doesn't even star Elvis — It's "Bubba Ho-Tep [2]."
