Why shouldn't same-sex couple have the same 515 rights and considerations that a heterosexual couple may have?

What is wrong with homosexuality? If 2 men or women choose to be with each other and pursue their lives together let them, and create the laws so they protect them as well as the heterosexual couples, not just the heterosexuals.

I guess I do not understand the general hatred that many people have towards homosexuals. I do not believe that it is a choice they made consciously, and I do not think it effects our society negatively. So these people should be offered the same rights and responsibilities that Heterosexual couples have!
