Disney enigmas have been at the fore of my thoughts lately. For starter's, there's the whole question of why Donald Duck never wears pants [1].

Goofy wears pants. Mickey Mouse usually wears those red shorts. Is Donald the debauched libertine of the Disney world?

Another odd Disney puzzle is the "Goofy holler." If you've heard it, you probably know what I'm talking about. Wikipedia describes it as "the cry Goofy makes when falling or being launched into the air, which could be transcribed as 'yaahh-hoo-hoo-hoo-hooey!!'"

The weirdest thing about the Goofy holler is that Goofy isn't the only character who hollers that way. "Cinderella," which opened in U.S. theaters 58 years ago today, features a scene in which the King and Grand Duke fall from a chandelier and cut loose with a Goofy holler. Now, these guys are two humans.

Throughout the Disney film canon, everyone ranging from chipmunks and lions to bears and Frenchmen is capable of uttering the exact same Goofy holler when falling from a great height.

That makes no sense it all. To paraphrase Marvin Gaye, it's enough to make me wanna holla.
