According to the Library of Congress, Minnesota became the 32nd state admitted into the Union on May 11, 1858. Minnesota's application for statehood was submitted to President James Buchanan in January, but became entangled with the controversial issue of Kansas statehood, delaying it for several months until it was finally approved by Congress.

To celebrate Minnesota’s 150th anniversary, the McLeod County Museum, 380 School Road N.W., Hutchinson, is hosting a party from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Special events include musical entertainment, theme displays and a pork chop supper, $7 per person plus $2 for an extra chop.

The public is welcome to attend and the only charge is for the pork chop supper. For more information, call the museum at (320) 587-2109.
