It’s not easy juggling responsibilities, but that’s exactly what Hutchinson native Jeff Fahey is doing. He’s finishing his music education classes at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, while preparing to direct the Hutchinson Theatre Company’s summer musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Fahey will be in town next week to conduct auditions. Tryouts are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

A cast get-together will take place Wednesday, June 18, with rehearsals starting Monday, June 23. The show will open Thursday, Aug. 7, and continue through Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Hutchinson High School Auditorium.

This is Fahey’s second turn at directing for the local theater company. His first production was the musical “Footloose” in 2004.
“I had a great experience with that,” he said. “I wanted to direct again.”
