Class AA's No. 1 ranked New Ulm (12-1) came into Saturday's softball affair having given up just 11 runs in 13 games. St. Peter, who handed the Eagles its only loss, 2-1, plated the most runs thus far this season.

That was until the first inning, in which Hutchinson scored three runs and never let down, beating the Eagles, 7-1. The game was played at Harman Park in New Ulm.

The Tigers got on the board first with three runs, including two off the bat of Tessa Ewert. The sophomore third baseman had three hits on the day, including an RBI-double in the seventh for an insurance run. Teammate Laura Carlson reached base three times and scored every time.

Hutchinson also scored three runs in the fourth inning off starter Becca Loose.

Senior pitcher Lynn Wegner was dynamite all day, striking out four batters, while scattering six hits and allowing only one run in the second inning.

Hutchinson (6-9) hosts Red Wing in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
