Oh where, or where should Hutchinson’s Farmers Market be?
The continuing quest for a home that makes growers, customers and neighboring business owners happy went before the Hutchinson City Council again last week.
Lee Miller, an intern with Economic Development Director Miles Seppelt, came before the council looking for direction on where city leaders think the market should be placed.
The market, which opens for the 2008 season on June 4, has been on First Avenue Southeast between Main and Hassan streets for several years. But some neighboring business owners have complained that severely limits access to their businesses by customers and delivery vehicles.
“I think we need to provide reasonable access to 101 Park Place,” Council Member Jim Haugen said.
Miller presented several options for the council to consider. The council appeared to favor the option of moving Farmers Market one block east on First Avenue so that it would be next to City Center. Miller was directed to explore that option further, and to also look into possibly moving Farmers Market in front of ShopKo along Main Street.
