LETTER: Going ‘green’ helps the Earth and could help our economy

It doesn’t matter whether “global warming” is fact or fiction, “living green” and trying to be eco-friendly should be everyone’s mantra whether liberal or conservative. God originally put us on this Earth to be caretakers of it. Sadly, because of original sin, we keep losing sight of this. We tend to be parasitic in our use of natural resources, devouring whatever is needed at the time, only until it is gone or close to it, do we decide maybe we better be less abusive.

Why does it take high prices or catastrophes to cause individuals, societies and governments to change their ways? It should be standard procedure to think how things affect the environment, promoting what is the safest and most helpful to preserve and sustain it. Maybe at infancy, stages of alternative fuels/energy, reusing and recycling costs may start high. However, we are a resourceful, creative society that gives individuals and companies the freedom to explore and invent so that over the years, it should be economically feasible to be a “green” country.

A comparison was made about China and India valuing economy over ecology. Where did they get this model from? It was America 20 years ago. Now, this “global warming frenzy” might actually generate a new era in America— that of stimulating the economy in the name of ecology. The market is ripe for entrepreneurs to be on the cutting edge for “green” fuel, products and lifestyle. If America comes up with successful models that develop this effectively, it will only be a matter of time that the world follows. Capitalism is our strongest, most effective force in influencing allies and enemies alike. Let it do so by going “green.”

If “global warming” is the catalyst that is going to move people and governments to be stewards of the earth, let it resound loudly. Whether it’s a reality or not is inconsequential.
