A case of possible road rage Saturday night, July 12, apparently led to an alleged assault and car crash in Hutchinson following the completion of a tractor pull competition at the McLeod County fairgrounds.

According to police, a Silver Lake man, Blake Mader, reported that he was in a line of cars waiting to exit the fairgrounds at the Century Avenue Southwest entrance when Kelly Peters, 26, of Winthrop tried to edge his 1999 Jeep into the line from the side.

Peters was apparently successful in cutting in. The two then exchanged words, and Peters allegedly threw coins at Mader’s vehicle.

Police said as the two vehicles exited the fairgrounds and headed eastbound on Century Avenue, Mader rear-ended Peters vehicle when it apparently stopped abruptly. The two turned into the Century Theater lot, where Peters allegedly exited his vehicle, reached into Mader’s vehicle, ripped Mader’s shirt and struck him.

Police will seek careless driving, disorderly conduct, fifth-degree assault and damage to property charges against Peters.
