Farmer to farmer field day July 30 in Plato

The University of Minnesota Extension of Carver County will be hosting a “Farmer to Farmer” Field Day on from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Engelmann Dairy, 11664 County Road 9, Plato.
The event is free and no registration is required. Lunch will be served courtesy of the Carver County Dairy Core Team.

Dr. Tom Oelberg with Diamond V Mills will be presenting his observations from the field regarding total mixed ration feeding and feeding consistency. He will discuss factors effecting variations in dry matter intake, milk production and cow health as they relate to feeding management. Participants can bring one TMR sample per farm (1-gallon bag). Dairy Core Team members will be on hand to evaluate samples using the Penn State shaker boxes after the meeting.

Engelmann Dairy is owned by Roger and Peggy Engelmann. Directions from Hwy 212 are as follows: Turn north on County Road 9 (McLeod Ave.) at Plato. The farm is 1/2 mile north of town on the right. Please follow signs and enter the farm in the northern-most driveway. Lunch will be served at the park in Plato. Directions to the park will be available at the farm.
