Robocop picks up some pork rinds
and a gallon of milkWhen I first heard "Robocop" was slated for a 2010 remake, my heart didn't exactly sink. I just didn't care.
The 1987 original was a hands-down, all-time classic. It's been one of my favorite movies for *does the math* two-thirds of my life, and I think it's as fun to watch today is it was when I was a kid.
But, the brilliance of the original has been steadily ground into mush by a series of lame sequels, TV adaptations and other silliness. I just figured the remake would be more of the same irrelevant garbage.
But ... ComingSoon.Net [1] now reports the director Daron Aronofsky and writer David Self have signed on for the remake.
Aronofsky is one of my favorite filmmakers, and is responsible for "Requiem for a Dream," one of my favorite films for *does some more math ... man my brain hurts* about a quarter of my life.
Self wrote "Road to Perdition," starring Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig and Paul Newman. I didn't go ape-dookie over that movie, but I thought it at was least an above-average crime drama.
So, yeah, the "Robocop" remake might not be completely awful. What a pleasant surprise.
