55+ driver improvement program offered.

The Minnesota Highway Safety Center is offering 55+ Driver Improvement Courses.

• An 8-hour full course will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 and Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Emergency Operations Center, 44 Washington Ave. W., Hutchinson.

• A 4-hour refresher course will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, also at the Emergency Operations Center in Hutchinson.

A Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center certified instructor teaches the classes. Driver safety, confidence and comfort are enhanced by utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, including the latest visual scanning and steering techniques, anti-lock braking skills, airbag information, driver distraction, road rage and new vehicle technology.

The 8-hour full course is $20, and the refresher course is $18. The Driver Improvement Courses are open to the public, and pre-registration is requested. For more information or to register call toll free 1-(888) 234-1294.

Persons ages 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota Law. First-time participants must complete the full course. Repeat attendees can take the 4-hour refresher course.
