Beth Dennison was crowned the new Miss Hutchinson at the 66th annual Hutchinson Jaycee Water Carnival Miss Hutchinson pageant Sunday night.

Dennison, 19, is the daughter of Steve and Jane Dennison. She is pursuing a career in nursing at the University of North Dakota.

Tiffany Gunderson was named princess. She is the daughter of Mark Gunderson and Donna and John Hamers.

Angie Johnson was named Miss Congeniality and Courtney Baker received the talent award.

Thousands of people lined Hutchinson’s streets for the Grande Day Parade. Hutchinson Marching Tigers were the first of 10 marching bands to perform at Sunday’s event.

Threatening skies and a sprinkle or two didn't keep hundreds of Hutchinson area residents from filling Library Square for the annual Dairy Days Celebration Friday, June 6. There they ate a lunch featuring milk, ice cream and cheese, viewed a display of antique tractors, listened to polka music and cheered as area celebrities and dairy princesses vied for the title of top cow milker.

The 2008 Hutchinson Water Carnival events are in full swing. Monday night events included Music in the Park with music by The Concord Singers, and Pie in the Park. Last Men Standing performed a free concert during Taste of Water Carnival Tuesday. Canoe Races and the Boat Parade followed.

Family members packed the Hutchinson High School gymnasium Sunday, June 8, as the 232 members of the Class of 2008 received their diplomas.

Ron and Linda Cleland of Hutchinson love Corvettes and having a good time. They are organizing Hutchinson’s first-ever Corvettes for a Cure rally this weekend, May 30 through June 1. All proceeds from the event will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation and American Cancer Society.

Several hundred people braved cool temperatures and strong winds to attend the annual Memorial Day service at the McLeod County Veterans Memorial Park in Hutchinson. Don Walser, judge advocate for the American Legion, Department of Minnesota, gave the keynote address.

This past Sunday, the McLeod County Museum celebrated Minnesota’s 150th anniversary with a program, music, special exhibits and a pork chop dinner. The highlight of the event was the presentation of Sen. Norm Coleman’s letter by Gerald Woodley, Coleman’s Mankato representative. Coleman had been invited to the event, but was unable to attend because his son was graduating from the University of St. Thomas.

Under Saturday’s sunny skies, dogs and their masters turned out for the 10th annual Paws on Parade petwalk, a fundraiser for the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter in Hutchinson. In addition to the walk, attendees watched demonstrations, listened to music, viewed vendor displays and bid on silent auction items.
